Rizeigat is an ethnic group in Darfur, Sudan. Rizeigat speaks Arabic, their language can be understood by both Arabic and Sudanese Arabic speakers. They are a Baggara tribe, their name means cow. Their origin goes back many centuries ago before Mohammed. They claim to be involved with Juhayna of the Hejaz. The Bagarra tribes are 100% Muslim, they faithfully follow the five pillars if Islam. They do hold religious celebrations. Most of the people are herdsman, raising cattle, and some sheep and some goats. They use the camels to ride or use them as pack animals only. The live in camp units with everyone else, and sleep in dome shaped tents that are portable and are easy to move along with the people. There are some people that live in town and they have house made of mud and bricks and have thatched roofs. The women work to make income for its family by milking and selling milk, and the men care for the herds and grow and harvest crops. Men are usually married to more than one woman.
Hamar is another ethnic group. The Hamar people are also known as the Hammer-Banna tribe, and they speak Baggari. After Mohammed died the group started to study and practice Islam. The Hamar of Sudan are herdsmen as well. Their herds are mostly cattle, some herds of sheep and goats. Camels are used for riding and as pack animals only. Hamar also grow sorghum, the staple crop, and some plant sesame and beans. The live in hut type houses, made of branches covered in grass they are also dome shaped. The more wealthier people live in rectangular shaped houses with tin roofs. Their fashion is sandals, cotton turbans, and caps. They are strongly involved in ceremonies such as birth, marriage, death, and first haircut. The elaborate on the marriage ceremonies mostly. Men are not allowed to have more than four wives and after they marry they are to live with or near with the husbands parents.
Humr is also an ethnic group in Darfur, Sudan. This group does follow Islamic beliefs and its practices, and this came through from the Arabs. This ethnic group came along after the Baggara, Nuer, and the Dinka.
